10/11 speed chainset

Can a 11 speed chainset be used with a 10 speed set up i/e 10 speed chain front and rear mech?

I would suspect it would be fine. Going the other way would be more likely to be an issue.

Yes, the 11 speed chain is thinner than the 10 speed, so it can be used on a 10 speed set up. If you tried to put a 10 speed chain on an 11 speed set up, it would be too thick.

agreed im looking at the 105 5800 11 speed chainset as opposed to the 105 5750 10 speed.
only £20 difference in price on wiggle.

Mine isn't.

I think speed specific chainsets come in the same category as speed specific brake calipers, ie marketing bullshit.

fitted 11 speed 105 5800 to my boardman so 11 speed is compatable with a 10 speed set up
