Melting sea ice and rising sea levels

Ice floats because it is less dense than water. When it melts its weight stays the same but its volume actualy goes down. Would melting sea ice actually reduce sea levels? Is it just the ice currently above sea level that could cause them to rise?

    Opinions On This ICE QNT?

Recumbent trike has been on the wishlist for a while now, but any idea's of a new one are a no go as they are a tad pricey. As a result I've been watching eBay etc, and this one caught my eye. Circa 2006/7 Trice QNT, so narrow track with rear suspension. Bar end shifters which I would prefer...

GONE: 26" Schwalbe Ice Spiker tyres (pair of) for 700c ice spikes

No photo yet but I've a pair of Schwalbe Ice Spiker tyres 26" that I'm hoping to swap for a 700c pair. They've been used in the sense that the bedding-in 10km has been done but never ridden on snow/ice. However they're stored outside under cover and bagged but some light surface rust has...

    Ice dancing - sort of!

Enjoy! (apparently no-one was hurt in the making of this video) https://twitter.com/CBCMontreal/status/805843358455369728 There are some good versions set to music too. It's the kind of thing you'd expect to happen in this country, not somewhere like Montreal where I thought they were used to...

Game ready ice and compression system

After injury or surgery, the standard physio mantra is RICE - Rest Ice Compression Elevation. I had ACL reconstruction surgery 4 weeks ago and have been using a Game Ready system - http://www.gameready.co.uk/rental.html It is fantastic - iced water is pumped through a compression sleeve...

    Ice bike?

Sometimes I cycle in to work along side a canal. I was wondering if it might be possible to cycle ON the canal in a really cold winter? Anyone done it?

    Value Ice cream

We have morrisons own brand value Ice cream and find it quite satisfying compared to the more expensive brands. What do the rest of Cycle Chat members think. Ps the lids come in useful as well.

ICE Adventure Chain Length Adjuster. Version 2.

As the first version of this thread was closed by a moderator, it seems a shame not to report on the simple solution to allowing two different height riders use my Ice recumbent I've come up with. As there will only be two of us using the trike, the simple solution would be to make a removable...

    ICE Adventure Chain Length Adjuster.

One of the problems I've discovered with my Ice which may apply to other manufacturers is the price of factory enhancements & spares. Of the items on my wish list, are a full set of mud guards, a flag/flags & poles, seat repair, (wife will tackle) & a chain length adjuster. I think my wife may...

Got my Ice Adventure Folder Yesterday

Bought it from Ebay, collect tomorrow. Needs a set of mudguards, original or retro fit, if anyone knows some. Bad knee compresses a bit too much so I might have to change the cranks, but I was wearing long trousers when I tried it, can't see a 76 year old in lycra.

    Ice Trice (QNT) Trike.

Before I put her on eBay, just seeing if anyone's after a Trice QNT. She's in pretty good condition, and has performed exceptionally for the couple of years I've owned her. In mint condition when I acquired her with around 1,000 miles, I've put on around another 2,500-3,000 miles. Would've been...

ice Cream Prices .......do you think they are a rip off?

A bigger "problem" if you have kids. I dont very often eat it but my recent experiences tell me YES....ITS A RIP-OFF LOCAL WARRINGTON VENDOR. £1.00 WITH a flake. (Mr Whippy type) NORFOLK. On a recent holiday I paid £1.80 for a single cone (local made). No flake. LAST WEEKS BIKE RIDE. We...

Testing the waters – anyone looking for a very well-equipped ICE trike?

I'm just testing the waters here. Much as I love my trike when I ride it, my usage patterns have changed so much it actually sees very little use – mostly I ride my Brompton. It's a TRICE Q, 2008 model in black, but with upgrades from later models, and a huge number of extras ... - Front...

    Ice Trice Borealis.

Here's my new baby. Did the first commute on her today. Not as bad as I expected uphill, slightly faster than the Raptobike on the flats, and utterly devastating downhill!!!!! Looking forward to the rain tomorrow to test the hood out!

    ICE doesn't answer

I have recently e-mailed ICE twice regarding som things I want to order, but no reply. Is there something wrong with their e-mail? I have always got my answer more or less direct when contacting them.

    ICE Sprint > Electrifying It

Sorry if i missed any info previously - i couldn't find an answer. What's the best option for retrofitting an electric setup to my ICE Sprint? Just toying with the idea for now - any and all info much appreciated.

Occasional ice - winter tyre compound or studded?

Hi all, I have a 5 mile commute and no option other than to walk (which I will not do, I have evolved to be on wheels of one sort or another ). I had a few scary moments this morning from sudden patches of ice (North East UK weather). I was wondering whether to invest in Continental Top...

    Spiked ice tyres

It'll be -1° when I go to work tomorrow. But, most of the roads I use are fairly traffic heavy, so the ice will probably have gone. Do I go to the effort of swapping out my tyres for the ice ones tonight or not?

    Clevedon to Bristol Ice watch

Hi all, I took to the main roads today avoiding the cycle path between Nailsea and Flax Bourton. Did anyone use it this morning and if so, what was it like? I dont mind the route I took in the mornings, but tonight when pitch black I would rather avoid. Hope you all made it where ever you were...

    Ice on the road!

Fellow Commuters (or in fact anyone who rides in the cold hours).Be warned.... Black Ice has reached as far south as London. Admittedly, as the streets are paved with Gold down here, its a little easier to see but I was caught out yesterday Morning when my front wheel just "went" from under...

Anyone else come a cropper this morning?

I've been delaying fitting my Marathon Winters until "Winter" arrived in these parts, seems i delayed one day too long. After heavy rain yesterday evening the temperature then plummeted to near freezing this morning and the commute to work at 6.30am seemed daunting, all was fine with well...

first winter of cycling.....when does ice become a problem?

Hi, rediscovered cycling in the spring and have been commuting since then. Most of my path is a lightly gravelled canal towpath so should be quite grippy. I just have a hybrid with thin tyres. Before and after i get on the canal path though there is about 10 minutes or so on roads...just fairly...
