Suzuki Van Van annual commuting costs

Some might recall I sold my electric bike and bought a 125cc motorbike for commuting, well, I've done a year on it. The only maintenance I've done is to top up the oil and clean, adjust and lube the chain. I've suffered no mechanical issues. The low fuel light comes on at about 105 miles, I fill...

    Women's commuting saddle for hybrid

Hello, I am having some saddle woes. I'll start by saying I cycle in somewhere between relaxed and fitness posture in normal clothes, not lycra and no chamois. Full disclosure: I have a bony behind. I bought a trek fx 3 recently that came equipped with a 170mm Bontrager nebula ...

Alternative to M&S Cycling Chino's For Commuting

Based on info here I picked up a pair of M&S cycling chino's last year, or maybe the year before on sale for £10. They work perfectly for my 8 - 10 mile daily coummute in the winter over either shorts or tights depending on temperature. Since M&S no longer sell these, I'm after a good...

    Winter commuting

Hi just wondering if people have any tips/recommendations for equipment when riding during the winter. I'll only be going between 10 and 25 miles for work however occasionally I may have longer leisure rides. Not looking to spend too much on each item so looking at the cheaper side of the spectrum.

    Second Road Bike - commuting

Hi I'm looking for a cheap road bike for commuting. I wouldnt really want to spend any more than £300 on something that's used. I have no brand preference my only limitation is the size - as i am only 5"6 i may be limited on what is available so would probably need a small. I have been...

    Commuting with Carbon

I normally commute on my bombproof steel dropbar-MTB thing, which I cobbled together largely because the roads around here were so bad when I started to ride to work that to do so on a road bike was pretty uncomfortable and I felt, slightly dangerous given the sheer number of steering-deflecting...

Which is better for fitness - commuting or longer ride on the weekend?

I commute about 15 miles a day round trip. Would this be equivelant to doing a 75 mile ride at the weekend and not commuting in the week? I am not planning to give up my commute but just curious. I am guessing the 75 mile ride would have more impact on fitness/health?

One of the advantages of commuting by bike.....

..... is seeing the full arc of a perfect rainbow from end to end and being able to slow down / stop and admire one of nature's true wonders without inconveniencing all those drivers who aren't able to appreciate it the same way. :notworthy:

    Tyre width for commuting

I have just bought a Boardman CX team bike for my commute to work and to generally potter about on. It feels OK but the tyres are a bit of a shock coming from a road bike. I think they are some pretty cheap and basic nobbly Schwalbe tyres, 35mm. My commute is a mere 3.5m on mainly road and cycle...

    24x1.75 Commuting Tyres

Need to impose myself on you all again for some advice... I find myself having to convert my MTB into a commuter at short notice - for Tuesday 22nd and for the next three or four months thereafter. Basically the bike is something anonymous that I can leave in the station racks all day...

    Winter Commuting Tyres

I was cycling home last night about 10.30pm on a damp road, and rounding a right hand bend my tyres lost their grip, bike shot away and wham, down I went like a sack of spuds. Fortunately there wasn't too much traffic, the car behind was going slow enough to stop rather than run me over. I...

    Commuting when unwell help.

So I commute about 8.5miles each way, leaving the house at 0530 or 1730 for My 12 hour shifts. At the weekend I came down with a cold which went right for the chest. I managed to cycle on Fri and Saturday but caved in and asked a colleague for a lift on Sunday and Monday as I don't own a car...

Flat-bar dilemma: Whyte commuter or convert my Genesis?

Been a while since I've posted here and although a long-winded back story probably isn't necessary a short version might be useful. Essentially I've never quite felt the same about cycling since I crashed in June 2016 and it's taken me over a year to get back to a place (mentally) where I...

    Recommend a CX commuting bike?

Finally had enough of the Giant TCX, it's an entry level version and although great initially, the gears need adjusting every 3 days and the brakes need constant fettling to stop judder. Coupled with the harsh fork, I think it's time for a change. Budget: £500-1000.00 (lower end preffered but...

Specialized Secteur - Ideal for commuting or sportives.

For sale is my Specialized Secteur Elite. With a more upright and relaxed geometry this bike is easier on the body than race style bikes, making it great for commuting and also sportives. The frame size is 56. Im 5`10 and would say it would suit someone from 5`8 up to 6`. A test ride is...

    Wet Weather Clothing & Commuting

Okay, so you need to get to your destination and you look outside. Typical British weather, heavy showers. Wet roads. Pretty dull. The trees are noticeably taking a good beating from the wind... What do you wear (and why) in this weather and how do you prepare your bike? Bonus Point: How do...

Steel CX bike for commuting - Verenti Substance 105

Still trying to wittle down my options of bikes. Did tentatively decide to consider the Verenti Technique 105 at £637.50 as my first choice, but flexibilty of tyre choice with a mudguard and brake choice has me slightly hesitant when considering wetter weather. I then stumbled upon the Verenti...

Hi all, I've got a Brompton on order (S6L) but before it comes I'd just like to pick your brains as to a) whether any of you use bar ends with an S and b) if so which ones - since they need to be stubby enough to be able to fold up OK. Any advice much appreciated! Cheers, Mel.

    Specific commuting bike

i know it's not necessary but do people have a bike specifically for going commuting to work on? I've just started a new job where I don't fancy leaving me good bike in the bike racks - wheel benders in a dusty corner of the underground car park I have the opportunity to pick up a nearly new...

    Commuting on a unicycle..... thoughts?

I'm thinking of getting a Unicycle to commute my 8 miles to work on..... My thinking behind it is.... - A 50 percent less chance of punctures. - No brake blocks to wear out - No chain to come off or change every thousand or so miles. - Easy storage at work. - I can combine it with my other...
