Does anybody have access to a variety of freewheels?

My back wheel is a mavic elipse and have been using a cheap dicta freewheel with it. Nothing wrong with the dicta except that it makes a clunky noise.

I tried to upgrade to a simano freewheel, but have found that when screwed on, there is not enough clearance. It juts out as far as the inside track nuts, whereas the dicta one has plenty of clearance.

Am using 1/8th chain.

So are all quality freewheels the same as the shimano? Which has more clearance? Would going to a 3/32nd freewheel give me more clearance?

Thanks keith

3/32 might give you marginally more clearance, but not a lot.

How many speeds? There were slimmer 6 speed freewheels to fit in the space of a 5 speed one.

You can probably fit it by respacing and redishing the wheel but it's a faff. Also, you may end up with almost-vertical RH spokes and a weak wheel depending on how heavily dished it is to start with.

It's a single speed freewheel with a fixed on the flop side or is it the flip side? Anyway, the Elipse is a really nice track wheel and I wouldn't want to mess around with it.
