When I had my GSD, back in 1994 and he was a puppy, he was mobbed by crows. Bloody things. I chased them off with a brolly. Poor pup was quite nervous for a couple of weeks after that.
When the Westie in the avatar was a littl'un, he nearly got picked off by a buzzard, but it sheared off at the last minute when it saw me. I always do seem to put birds off.....
'kinell, they warn you about the drop-bears and hoop-snakes but no one mentioned the magpies.
A (ozzie) magpie ( currawong isn't it?) did fly off with my mate's full packet of biscuits. Good effort but he couldn't fly far with 'em and a 50 yard chase got 'em back

Currawongs are different. Bigger, not so urban (you see currawongs in the city, but magpies own the city). And black. No one would mistake them for magpies.
My parents had a tame pair of magpies - not really tame, they just knew the yard was safe. I had to hand feed them, as the neighbour's cat thought any meat was for him. Magpies respectfully took food from my hand. Cat bit me, because he thought I should be feeding him. Tetanus shot, and 2 courses of antibiotics. Kitty bites are dirty.
