Adam, How much do you weigh now? Tricky thing losing weight AND gaining more power. I am trying to gain a bit but not worry about weight until end of March .
Pretty much the opposite I’m doing! I’m losing weight but trying to maintain power and planning to do a short training program March/April to increase power whilst trying to maintain weight. Watch this space...

I just made the mistake of riding the Stage 5 short course at 6pm with a very short warm up. In fact this was supposed to be my warm up for a Flanders training ride at 6-30pm. But I got carried away and raced. Well, tried to. Legs quickly tightened up. after 25 min I kept getting the on screen warning to join the Flanders ride. As I quickly fumbled to use the mouse to avoid an auto join I fell off the back of my group and ended up riding in alone. No PB’s tells a sorry tale.
Did you no know that we, as humans, do not multi-task very well.

Even though I'm lighter I just can't compete with your monster power. Over the next 18 months I should be a little closer to your FTP and much leaner still. Then about 3% extra if I buy power pedals. Who knows our actual paths though.

I have a really good book on the subject. I’ll have to pull it out later when I’m back from work. It’s written by a body builder but it’s basic principles apply to what you’re talking about. Those guys have a reputation for just being drug addled and pumped full of water but they were ahead of the game in a lot of ways when it comes to diet.

I think it takes a massive amount of discipline once you start talking about that last 10% or whatever after you made all the easier gains. For example I pretty much gave up sugar. But for me it was a choice of that and alcohol. Giving up both would probably help me drop a couple more kg but it’s not something I’m realistically prepared to do.

Today I'm 141 lbs, power is my goal, I need to eat more. Racing is doing me good but making me tired. After Lance's cancer they stopped his high intensity training to eliminate the need for recovery and did the intervals at sub threshold for longer enabling more volume to be done in a block. There is proof you can get stronger without killing yourself.

I'd never give up Sugar it's almost a nutrient, I just see it as fuel to burn. The sugar tax shouldn't apply to athletes and the active, but that's another debate. It's saturated fat that's the fat you wear.

Maybe I should of been more specific... Processed sugar. You get all the sugar you need naturally from the food you eat if you have a balanced diet.

Processed sugar is one of the main causes of weight gain and also a major cause of many illnesses.

The trouble with doping (of any kind) is that it kind of puts any results you get in the grey area. I’m not saying you’re wrong. As always I have to re iterate I’m open to new ideas as I’m never an expert. But they also used to say lance Armstrong’s heart was a third bigger than an average heart etc etc. Turns out he had a penchant for every banned drug available to him! His recorded v02 max was low compared to the field. So it’s hard to say where he would of landed if his drug programme wasn’t so advanced.

1 week of my training plan down, 5 to go. This week was a "grinding" week...hours and hours of excruciating painfull low cadence workouts :B)
These are the workouts that tend to give you the highest Vo2 max measurement, and I got my highest ever score (57) in the very first session.
I'm really looking forward to something that doesn't involve low cadence, but next weeks plan includes 2 of them, one of them lasting more than 3 hours
Thankfully, from there on it looks like we're moving on to threshold, sweetspot and sprints and only a few hour long low cadence workouts.

This year I started my plan from a higher level than before, with a lot more km's in the bag. Last time a started from a 275 watt FTP and raised that to 285 watt at the end of the plan. Increased that to 292 watts at the end of the season.
Starting point is now 285 watt and the hope is I'll be gaining as much as last time, but it could very well be that my engine is just not able to go further than 292 watt.... time will tell.

Signed up for the 14:00 stage 6 today. @Brusgaard is signed up too, but I'm not expecting to see him after the pens.

I think my plan today is to go out hard, try to get into a fast group to drag me to the climbs. Suffer over the climbs and hope I can latch on to a group to drag me around the second lap 👍 I'm hoping I can hold on to 300 watts for the first minute, then 210 watts or so should let me stick to a group until the climbs. For the climbs I'm hoping to hold 230-250 watts then back down to 210 for the second lap.

That's the plan .... Should be a sub 55 min time ^_^

Edit: just saw that @Del C registered a 51:36 for this stage, so that's a target to aim for :gun:
