For the last few rides I've not bothered using my Tron bike as I've read it's not actually that great at climbing. Now I'm wondering if I should have, incase it was better overall.

I’ll have to respectfully disagree on this one amigo! I couldn’t hang on to the groups I was in at any rate.

I must have been lucky, only lost about 10 places, there were plenty of riders around to form groups once I crested.

I'll try to set a competitive target for you to chase down :okay:

Looks like we're doing 2 laps of the UCI course. First 75% of lap is flat, so getting in a good group will help you fly. The last 25% includes the 3 little hills. None are that hard or long, but the importance will be what groups reform at the top of the 3rd hill ready for the second lap. Getting dropped, and ending up on your own could have a big impact! Looking forward to this stage ... could be very interesting ^_^
Those hills are are short enough to hit them hard, which I think is what quite a few would do, there also a good place to drop people but would also mean keeping the power on especially the last hill near the finish 👍

Stage 5 - 1h 16m 20s @bridgy

Got a new FTP of 216 too. Should I be getting new FTP's as often as I am or was it that I didn't try hard enough on my initial FTP? ^_^

You can see a rapid jump in fitness/power. It will eventually begin to flatten off, then additional weight loss and further training will bring new levels. Eventually though , you will hit a level and that will be it- then its about holding that level through the years

Just watched the Pro/Am Richmond race. They absolutely blasted up the climbs with 12/13 W/kg. a pack of 15 broke away from the following Peleton to fight for the win

It kills me to be honest andy. Or puts me in my rightful place depending on how I look at it :B). But my w/kg just isn’t high enough to stay on those types of hills and I can bluff it to a degree on shorter lumps. That’s why I’d definitely consider them substantial. Because they generally cut the wheat from the chaff. Me being the latter!

Im not in your league Tommy, maybe you were right at the front with the A cats, but are too quick for most B's, So end up in no man's land. This can be awkward whatever level we are. I tend not to go too hard from the start these days- In the past, I can briefly match the front runners, but pay big time if I try and hang in. I then find myself dropped but too far In front of my current level and feeling a bit whacked.

I go strong to get near the front but then set my pace and wait till a group I can stay in catches me. This will be my early pace group. I tend to lose them later but there are always others

I’d really like to join a race with just B cat riders because it does confuse me getting muddled up with the A’s. And I can never work out if people are going to get DQ’d or what’s going on.

But I think generally in the B cat I am quite a big underdog versus the best on hilly courses. I have podiums from flat races but they feel a bit hollow to be honest. It’s hard to know who’s in what cat isn’t it? In those tour of zwift rides in particular. So maybe I am getting dropped mostly by A cat.

I was thinking about something the other day and maybe it links in with this conversation.... should we all be thinking about joining races or race leagues as team Cyclechat? we have people pushing the W/kg limits in b,c and d cat right?

Even though I'm lighter I just can't compete with your monster power. Over the next 18 months I should be a little closer to your FTP and much leaner still. Then about 3% extra if I buy power pedals. Who knows our actual paths though.

Adam, How much do you weigh now? Tricky thing losing weight AND gaining more power. I am trying to gain a bit but not worry about weight until end of March .
