I don't think we have a thread for this. Passed a few of interest in the area I grew up in today.

Royal School House, Raphoe. Originally founded by Royal Charter by James I, this "new" school was build in 1734 and was the school until 1971 when another new school was built, but this is still used as boarders accommodation.

Carnowen National School, built 1912. No longer a school but maintained by the Church and used for events.

I believe the building nearest the road was the school prior to building the new one in 1912, with the other larger house used for the school master.

Nice pics 🤩 And not a bad shout at all this ! I know of a few of these around here. I’ll be ‘on it’ (As long as I remember) next time I’m out 😁

Kilmainhamwood National School. The original dated to 1835, this seems to be a 1937 replacement (with additional bits added over the years).

Not just any old school, but MY old school and the steps up to the front door of North Bute Primary School on the Isle of Bute. The very steps I walked up one day in August 1967 as my education began. The white extension to the left wasn't there in 1967 and I can still remember having to put your schoolbag (the brown leather ones we all had with shoulder straps and a big flap over the front) in a neat line to the left of those steps, with a separate line for each class.
