Cycle home 5.6 miles predominantly uphill at around 11pm after having a few drinks at a friends house (when I say few I mean probably 3-4 drinks over the course of an evening with nibbles).

Taxi is too expensive, obviously my own car is out of the question and the bus stops nowhere near my destination.

I was going to answer yes, whatever the question was !

Most definitely!

Good luck! ;)

Well, it depends on the drinks, how much you have to eat with them, how well you know the route and whether you think there'll be much other traffic etc. Probably only you know your limits. I've certainly cycled home from a country pub after a couple of pints, and felt ok - but I don't know that I can in all conscience say "certainly!"...

You could always restrict the drinks to 1 or 2, if the company is good it shouldn't matter, and an understanding friend won't kick up about letting you have an orange juice or whatever....

The problem is, judging the 'too much' bit...

Driving, I'd impose a zero limit on myself. Cycling, I'd just keep the level down. I like to think I'd know when to stop (and knowing I was riding, I'd go in the right frame of mind to be moderate anyway)

Yes. I would.
I'd try and keep to about 3 pints or equivalent. I'd probably fail though...

I know the route very well and it's not all that busy that time of night. Some parts are not very well lit though (but I could always pavement cycle or walk if I felt unsafe I suppose). I'll wear my helmet, light myself up like a Christmas tree and go for it.
I'll stick to those mini bottles of lager. I can polish loads of them off with no problems, so if I just stick a few in my saddle bag I'll be fine.
I'm boring and sensible and know my limits.

Theres no need to light yourself up like a xmas tree though, just have a few lights.
Have a can of Red Bull before you leave so you go faster.
