Hi Guys,
Been doing a fair bit of work on bikes the last few days and the leaning about is a killer, as is having to pick up the bike to spin the wheels or work the gears (sometimes you need 3 hands) so I decided that I wanted the bike held in the air. First thought was sticking some spokes out from the work bench to hold it, then I decided I needed to walk around it so needed to fabricate a stand (too much aggro) or suspend the bike.
I had some hooks knocking about and a strop for strapping down a load on a trailer, turns out building a budget work stand is easy
1 Hooks placed on ceiling - in line about 2 feet apart maybe more (working on a variety of bikes)
2 Then loop strop over stem and hook it to itself, feed over first ceiling hook (above front of bike), then to second, then down and under the seat stays and back up through the hook above the back of the bike
3 Then lift bike pulling end of strop to keep tight, when at required height tie off using slip knot (so you can drop it easily)
Made the work enjoyable as I could work easily inside (to lay a bike out I need to go outside) and get to all of the bike easily (and not touching the ground is BRILLIANT for working on gears and brakes)
