For Sale : Steel Pashley tandem (E-type), built in Stratford-upon-Avon and believed to have been orginally supplied by Freckleton Cycles in Lancashire.
Bought by the current owners two years ago and used frequently since then, the tandem is very good condition and has brand new "gum" wall tyres, but has signs of ageing comensurate with its age including some rust patches and less than perfect paint.
26" wheels with new mudguards and a front bottom bracket to seat height of 22.5" and a stoker's bottom bracket to seat height of 21.5" it would be suitable for a captain of 5'8"+ and a stocker of 5'4"+ approximately.
The rear cassette has 6 gears and the front chainset has 2 chain rings giving 12 gears; however only are 10 usable gears, the smallest rear cog is inaccessible to the rear derailleur; the gear changers are mounted on the front handlebars and are thumb/finger activated - these are not indexed. The gears are Suntour SVX, the chainset is a Stronglight 100LX.
The rear wheel has a hub brake which is accessed via the lever on the rear handlebars; this is used mainly to control the speed on the tandem on a descent and not to stop the tandem.
Stopping the tandem is done via twin brake levers on the front handlebars using the front and rear caliper brakes. Both front and rear handlebars are equiped with bar ends for extra comfort when riding.
The front bottom bracket is "eccentric" meaning it can be used to adjust the tension of the timing chain (front chain), this avoids the need for a chain tensioner.
Steel pedals, comfortable seats and a bell are included, as well as a rear luggage rack which can easily take panniers for an extended tour.
