Wired or folding

It's a bit moot for me as I've just bought two wired as it was my only option but I was wondering for next time.

I always thought folding were not as tough and needed special rims but it seems that these days most rims will take them and they are just as tough as wired which are of course heavier due to the wire.

So what are the real life advantages/disadvantages, any reason to stick with wired over folding?

None that I can see Crackers.... All my tyres now seem to be folders.

Folding seem to be generally a bit lighter.
Storage is easier (they fold up).
They are often a bit more expensive.

That's about it as far as I can tell.

I'm not sure if this is a genuine advantage but folding tyres being more expensive tend to roll better (have a higher tpi)
Other folk say they change easier (folding) in the case of a p'ture but I couldn't say 100%.
The cost seem the biggest difference to me at the moment.

I've ran folding tyres on my kinesis in the past; at present its one folding (the old front on the rear) and a wired one on the front. There's is a drop in performance (but maybe its all in the head!), it certainly not enough to worry me when compared to the cost difference.

If people are prepared to pay an extra 50 quid to save 100g of rotating weight on a lighter cassette, they'll pay an extra fiver to save 50+g per tyre by using folding instead of wired.

Lighter tyres offer the same advantage as lighter wheels imo, but for much less cash.
