So I now have 2 bikes, a cheap Trek hybrid for family rides and wet commuting, and a Focus Cayo for proper riding and dry commuting. I hope to keep cycling over the winter, any reason why I can't do this on the Cayo so long as I look after it?

Any advantage to an alloy bike for the winter? Ribble seem to do a decent one for not big money, or maybe find something in the sales in a bit?

Providing you keep the Focus clean, there is no reason why you shouldn't use it in winter. Any metal components should be cleaned to remove salt. Also, keep the chain in tip-top condition, as road grit will quickly wear cassette.

Cheers, been making sure I keep it tip top, got drenched twice last week, but scrubbed up the cassette and gave the chain a thorough going over. Mrs endo will be delighted !
