I have just bought a merckx amx1 in size 54 (which is different to a conventional 54cm apparently) I also have a ribble 7005 race in a 54cm,
The ribble is a bit small for me and I have been told by ribble that I would better suit a 56cm frame.

I want to get a 56cm winter frame and swap everything on to it from the race frame, but looking at the merckx it has a massive head tube and generally seems a lot bigger, the ribble winter frame has a 130mm head tube which seems to be the case in all sizes??? From what I can fathom I would need a massive fork column and loads of spacers to get the same height but surely that can't be right.

Any help?
Cheers.

The headtube on that one varies between 11cm and 21.5cm depending on size.
