Hi
I have taken up cycling again after a break of many years (basically a 2 mile school commute come rain wind or shine ten years ago). I have just purchased a bike off wiggle.co.uk (who were excellent btw).
I am looking for some advice from winter commuters etc... I will be cycling to work every day often in the dark, wind and rain. What clothing would be suggested? Also have to buy a helmet and lights... Literally any advice would be appreciated, as I am a total novice:wacko: also places/websites to get good deals would be great too...
Cheers

Hope vision 1. I got two recently after my cateye piece of crap rechargeable broke.

Cateye el-1100 rear or mars 4.0 or smart 1/2 watt if you're short on money.

Shame you've just missed the Aldi bike stuff - very good price for winter gear.
If you're near one, it's worth looking in - my local still has some bits and bobs left.

What sort of budget. We need to know whether to point you at Aldi or Assos. FWIW there's nothing really wrong with either, It's just a case of how much is too much.

Depending on you budget, last winter for commuting to work, I mainly wore, a normal non cycling fleece, and normal trousers, when it was really cold or raining I used to wear a Altrua waterproof jacket, and a pair of cheap Waterproof over trousers.

But to be fair to the motorist, I did wear a Night vison vest over them, cos to give them a chance of hitting you, you need to give them something bright to aim for.
Lighting wise, i used Cateye front and rear, which had sufficent light to let the buggers see me, and for me to see where the potholes where.

really is no need to spend a fortune for commuting, in as much as some of the kit may look so lovelllllly but may be any better than your normal work attire.
