According to the manufacturers ACF-50 will protect against corrosion.

It's an aerosol that sprays on and is re-applied as necessary. Just keep it off the brakes and rims. It's probably an idea to keep it away from the top half of the frame as it will presumably soil clothing.

The bike will collect road grime as usual on top of this protective layer, but come the Spring it's all hosed off and the bike should be gleaming underneath

I've been a pleasure / weekend cyclist for years and I've always scoffed at people who put their best bike away over Winter, but having used a bike for regular commuting over last Winter I can now see why people do that!

The wear and tear on the drivetrain / rims / brakes etc caused by grimy and salty roads is horrendous. If you can clean and lube thoroughly after every ride then maybe it won't be a problem, but if you can't (or don't want to) I'd use a second bike and just accept that come Spring it will need some parts replacing and a lot of TLC to get it ready for next Winter!

My Sunday best geared bike goes away at the end of October, during the winter I only ride my fixed, it gets used for commuting, general running around and the Sunday rides, in the Spring the geared bike is brought back out and used on the Sunday rides until autumn.

Taking on board all the various opinions, I had a talk with the guy at my LBS. bought some Muc-off products to help see me through.
I am going to try and keep it for dry(ish) rides. I hope that some good rides out on the mtb will not only help me with my fitness but will help me stay in the saddle over winter :becool:
