I ordered an item from Winstanleys online which said 'available in 2-7 days'. I was charged for the item immediately and then received an email several days later saying that it would take 1 month to get the item.

So, almost one month on and still no item. I checked the website and it's still listed as 'available in 2-7 days' ; and all this time they have had my money. I know the likes of Wiggle and CRC only charge when the item is dispatched.

My first and last experience of winstanleys I think!

That fits with what I've heard about them.

Apparently they have two stock levels. "In Stock - Normally Dispatched in 24 Hours" means just that, but everything else gets the "2-7 days" line, whether it's accurate or not.

I have just had a very similar experience with them as well. I phoned them after just a few days and asked for my money back that they had already taken, what a cheek. I to wont be using them again.

I think that's illegal, they have to refund the money if they haven't despatched within 28 days.

I had a similar experience with them a few years back while trying to buy a top end MTB for my 6yr old son. They do seem to like selling stock they don't have and can't get and although I can't remember the exact ins and outs of the case now I do remember I phoned my credit card company to discuss the situation and where I stood. Perhaps Winstanleys were reluctant to cancel the order or dragged their feet over issuing a refund?

I would probably still deal with them as they appear to have some cracking deals but it would have to be a phone order where they confirmed they had the bike in stock, rather than an online order where they seem to be incapable of showing an accurate picture of stock levels!

I ordered a bike from them online - £519.99 - on 17 Feb and my card was debited immediately. They finally made up their mind that it was no longer available and credited my card on 28 Feb. Never again! One wonders what collective interest is lost by this ploy. Other people I contacted - and this included UK Bike Depot and Bikes 2U Direct - said they didn't charge until the item was ready for despatch.

I finally decided to contact them to see what was happening with my order after nearly one month.

They said "oh yeah it's in stock now, we'll get it sent out today" WTF, so if I hadn't called.......?

Never used them, but I rang them once about an item I was interested in.

They came across as a bunch of cowboys, so didn't bother ordering.
