Just an afterthought after recieving my 10 speed shifters (cheers Pete) and before i pay for a new wheelset i'm concerned my frame might be too narrow for a 10 speed rear wheel, its currently a 7 speed and internal measurement between dropouts is 135mm,please someone tell me it'll fit

What frame is it. If it's steel it can be opened up a little to fit a larger OLD hub. Sheldon shows how? Ali and Carbon can't.

Some standard spacings:

91 mm Low-end front hubs.
96 mm Older front hubs, especially French.
100 mm Modern front hubs.
110 mm Rear older track, coaster brake and other single-speed hubs. Also, front hubs for Downhill bikes with 20 mm axles.
114 mm Rear 3-4-speed .
120 mm Rear 5-speed, Ultra 6, newer track hubs.
126 mm Rear 6- and 7-speed (road); some newer internal-gear hubs.
130 mm Rear 7-speed (MTB) and 8- 9- and 10-speed (road); some newer internal-gear hubs.
135 mm Rear 7- 8- and 9-speed (MTB); many newer internal-gear hubs.
140 mm Rear tandem.
145 mm Rear tandem (newer models.)
150 mm Retro-Choppers, some Downhill and Freeride models.
160 mm Rear tandem (new Santana proposed standard.)
This seems to suggest that it will fit a 10 speed.

That's for the pair, no rim tape tho, Those are ATB rims tho so narrowest tire fitting is 700x28. If you want narrower tires you will need a different rim.

I've re-spaced an alu frame, it's not recommended but I needed to do it as part of a restoration/conversion I was doing. I braced it at the seat and chain stays and used the threaded bar method and just took my time. You need to take it past the measurement you need to allow for some spring back.

I rode the bike without any issues until deciding to re-build it on a modern frame. It's now my commuter.

Just to add I found the customer service at Rose second to none, I am sure if you rang and asked for a set of XT hubs building up on Open Pro rims to take 700x23 tyres they would do you a good deal. Speak to Andrea Vehoff. Arrived well packed safe and sound, only took a week + 3 days delivery.

Thats a good price then for a pair, will have to get in touch though as i like 23's so will need a narrower rim

Obviously you guys know something about the OP I don't, since you all are suggesting a wheel based on 135mm (i.e. mtb) rear hub and 700c rims (which hitherto are usually original equipment only on hybrids).

I am just pointing this out because a) in a recent post the OP said he converted the bike TO a hybrid, presumably from something else, which with135mm hub is most likely a mtb, and b) the vast majority of 135mm hubs on mtb are hitherto built on 26" rims...

The only conversion to hybrid i carried out was to the handlebars and gear shifters/brake levers,i fitted flat bars and rapid fire shifters,it still has the original 700x23 wheels, the 135mm i mentioned was the distance i measured internally between the rear dropouts, fingers crossed this means i can still fit a 10 speed wheel

So it was a drop bar bike with 135mm rear hub - that is quite unusual. Most drop bar bikes have 130mm rear hubs. Presumably they pick a 135mm because it is a freewheel hub, rather than a 130mm freehub, to cut cost.

A current 135mm Shimano compatible freehub should take a current 10 speed Shimano compatible cassette with no issue, but as I mentioned in the other thread, with a flat bar 10 speed shifter you do need to pick the right rear mech for compatibility.

I'm going back to drops mate, alredy have a pair of 105 sti shifters which prompted my other thread regarding rear mech issues, the bike is a cheapy Viking, whilst it looks nice the components are pants so upgrading and converting to 10 speed from the original 7 speed.
