Hello All,

I have been given a Raleigh AT10 MTB which although it looks a little tatty is ideal as a multi use bike . My original Commuter only had 8 gears so was hard work mountain trekking/camping but I couldn't justify putting a rack on my MTB . A few adjustments plenty of lube, adding bar ends has made this bike ideal as a middle range bike between the two.The big problem I have is it is really low geared at the top end 42/14 ( I can not alter the 14 as it has a freewheel rear wheel) but I do have a spare rear cassette type wheel knocking around that was originally 8 speed. Looking at ebay I see that people are selling wheels that will accept a range of cassettes 7/8/9 speed my question is will a 8 speed wheel take a 7 speed cassette without problems or are these adverts untrue ? With the cassette I could go down to 44/11.

Thanks all.

Thanks a

You need to add a small spacer behind the 7sp cassette like this one - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/hope-7sp-spacer/rp-prod1289

Then it should work fine
