A friend is the reluctant owner of a 27.5" Scott Aspect via insurance after his old 26" mountain bike was stolen.

He used studded winter tyres on the old bike.

These were mounted on their own wheels and not stolen.

The question is will the 26" wheels fit on the new bike?

He will buy a new 10-speed cassette, same as the Scott, and the wheels already have the same size disc rotor as the Scott.

I reckon they should fit.

What do you think?

Yes, proved they use the same axle system and any brake discs are the same size. Dunno how it'll feel, but odds are it'll work.

Friend has spoken to someone who has fitted 26" wheels onto a 27.5" bike.

Works OK, but it makes bottom stroke of the pedal lower than ideal.

I knew there would be a wrinkle somewhere, it is a bicycle after all.

Does he want to sell me the 27.5" wheels? They would fill the frame better on my 26" wheel mountain bike, which is now used for general cycling with a rigid fork.

I think the plan is to run 27.5" except when studded tyres are needed.
