Wilier Izoard XP

Hello all

Is there anyone that owns or knows someone that own a Willier Izoard XP?

Looks like a good deal at £1300 if the frame alone was £1500 only a couple of years ago. I'm considering one but not sure if the geometry is too 'racey' as I'd prefer a more sportive type.

I have always really liked Williers.

Looked at getting a Cento Uno frame in black & dayglo yellow last year at a big discount but it went before I could find enough funds.

The Izoard (named after a mountain climb) is probably now near the bottom of Williers carbon frame range but...

As an Italian company with a very long & distinguished history they do produce very good bikes, if a little under specced for £££ in terms of the groupsets, wheels etc.

Willier are very keen on colour matching too (like Cube) so they look really trick.

I am quite sure it will be a very good bike.

Looks great. I tried one and I thought the ride was very smooth. You could always shorten the stem to give a more upright position. Later on you could upgrade to Ultegra and better wheels which would make the bike lighter. The beauty of this machine is that there are splashes of red which make you go faster.

Below is the one I did look at, in medium. From the geometry on their website, the head tube measures 14.5cm and top tube is 53.8cm. Not sure how 'sportive' this sounds, which is my worry.

It will all be clarified soon, as i'll go for a test ride!

My son has one which I rode when I visited the other week. Very impressed with the overall package & the frame is good enough to gradually upgrade the rest as & when finances become available. He has done a number of 60-70 mile rides and one 100-miler & really rates the comfort.

Willier Izoard is a sportive model @San Marco

14.5 for frame size is reasonably relaxed/tall so comfort should be no issue.

I've never liked the decals TBH, but it's not going to be mine right

As for geometry, it doesn't look like 'racy' geometry to me, definitely looks like a more relaxed 'sportive' set up IMO.

Well, I had a test ride last Sunday, and the Wilier felt pretty good. Not sure if the Medium frame is for me, the guy from the shop insisted it was fine but I'm not sure, and sadly they didn't have an L frame available. The handlebars felt a bit low, it was fine for a 10-15 min test, but not sure how my shoulders will feel after 3 hours? The helpful guy then flipped the stem and I had another go, it felt much better, but half way through the ride a Park N Ride bendy bus went flying past me, squeezing me into the kerp, so much that I had no option but to stop and get off the bike! I was son angry and shaken, it completely spoiled the ride. I'd followed the bus to its terminal to complain if it wasn't because I had to return the bike. Luckily the bike was fine.

The problem is that in between these two rides, I tried the Trek Domane 4.5 on a 56 frame, and I could really feel the difference. Now that is what I would call a 'sportive' geometry. What a machine! Relaxed riding position, bad tarmac absorber, yet very fast if needed. Sadly it is £800 dearer than the Wilier, and perhaps not as involving a ride. There is a cheaper spec'd Trek at £1500 which I'm going to try. I'd also will like to try a Wilier on a Large frame if possible.

Heart says Wilier, head says Trek (or similar, Speesh Roubaix?), arghhh !!

Condor Go bike spotting, see how many Specialized and Treks you see compared to Condors
Have you looked at Cannondale too, their £1800ish Synapse one Cycling Plus bike of the year...C'dales still pretty common though

@vickster Yeah Condor is still in the back of my mind. Would it be comparable to the Genesis equilibrium? I've got the chance to test one soon.

And yes, I've seen the synapse 6 105(£1699) which is sold at the same shop as the condor. Bike of the year hmmm.....

What's your opinion on the Wilier?

Not ridden just admired in London shop and at a cycling cafe the other day. Think that was fratello. I think condor higher up the food chain. That said, my custom equilibrium is rather lovely

Willier = black = ugly (IMO)

I also don't like shimano shifters, hoods don't fit my hands comfortably
