OK, we might finally relent and get a games console thingy.

The kids want a Wii with the bits that allow them (3 kids)to Play "Guitar Hero" including the drums.

Don't know the first thing about Wii's, what's required? Don't fancy going into a store under knowledged to be out-sold by a spotty 16 year old geek.

[/Not the Nine o' Clock News Mode/]... do you want Woofers and Tweeeters with that? No of course I F'in dont...

So what is your question?
Err, the question is; if my kids want to play Guitar hero on a Wii, what Wii model/type do I need to get, what Guitar hero package, what extra bits handsets etc are required, what other things do I need to consider?

These things are very alien to me.

There only is one model of Wii. The Wii is designed to take up to four handsets. It comes as standard with one but may come with more as part of a pack, otherwise you'll need to buy extra ones.

In addition to the main hand set there are other controllers that are sometimes needed for specific games. The most common of these is the Nunchuck, a small controller that attaches to the main controller via a cable. One Nunchuck is also supplied with the console. Again, if the game you want requires extra Nunchucks you'll need to buy them. On the back of each game box it will tell you what controllers you need. In Guitar Hero the controllers fit into the plastic guitars.

The main controllers take take AA batteries and run for ages on them. Some people use rechargeable but it's not essential as the battery life is so good.

All of the connectors you need to hook it up should come in the box, the only thing you may need is a splitter if your TV is short on scart inputs. I would conect it up before Christmas to make sure you've got what you need. The Wii connections are very simple and impossible to mix up.

MrP has covered most things
As for price, a basic wii package will be less than £180.
In the box you'll get all the cables you need, the wii, one remote, one nunchuk and wii sports game(pretty fun!)
The guitar hero you're after is Guitar Hero: World Tour. That's about £140, comes with a guitar, drums and microphone - so good for 3 people!
Warning though, the box for guitar hero is MASSIVE! You'd be much better off getting it delivered online unless you fancy stumbling around town trying to cart a huge box back to your car ;)

rockband is cheaper and i think better.

you can get the band in the box for £110 from game,
this although does not come with the disk.
however if you buy the disk at the same time it totals out at about £130 and this was when it was alot newer.

as for the wii price i agree with mr pig.

if you choose rock band with a nintendo wii i think it will total at £310.

if you stick with guitar hero world tour it will be aprox £30 £40 more.

hope this helped:biggrin:

That is what the spotty 16 yr geek is for...to ask. How vain can soemone be;)

This assumes that the spotty 16 y/old actually knows what he's talking about... Whilst I'm prepeared to accept that they might be, years of experience in areas where I do have knowledge has demonstrated that they often kn stuff all.
That's the great thing about age... it brings experience.

On the other hand, if they had any brains at all they would not be working in a games shop!

In fairness there aren't many job opportunities for spotty 16 yr olds

Tis the great thing about working in a gameshop....they know about games.

Hmm. The herbert will doubtless be dismissive of the Wii then, and sell FF a PS3 or Xbox 360 with Gears of War and GTA San Andreas...

Do you work in a games shop? because you cannot buy this for the 360 only download it.

Well, I find myself unashamed to own that what I know of so called "video games" is the little I have been able to glean from the infrequent editorials on the subject in the Telegraph. I understand that they are a form of entertainment popular among the lower orders, involving the simulated muggings of the elderly, set to loud "rap" music. As a high court judge, I intend to urge that they be banned forthwith.

Yrs,

The Hon J.T. Monkey.

Thank you for your help, much better armed now.
Have to prepare for excited kiddies on Christmas day.... (assuming I can find one).

Cheers

FF,
I have just got the basic Wii and I found the cheapest to be Amazon.
Ordered the base unit plus 1 extra Remote and Nunchuck and it was all delivered, post free, in about 3 days.
Really good service.
Gary.
