Wii - Lego Indiana Jones - help required

My kids don't return to school for another 2 days ... and the youngest is trying to do Indiana Jones. And I'm supposed to be helping him... we keep finding the occasional letter box - like the old red bricks in Lego Star Wars. But all we manage to do with them is pick them up and drop them... what are we supposed to do with them?

We've got that game for the 360... some of the blocks need to be put in a special place to be used - normally once you've picked it up a little blue arrow will appear over where you've got to drop it. I assume it's the same on the Wii version, but you never know...
