Widest tyres, and recommendations for a Planet X RT58 - 28mm?

Hi all, I just bought this Planet X RT58 for a bargain £120, and wondered what sort of tyres to put on it.. I'll probably use it as a winter bike, mainly on old Somerset roads and occasionally VERY light gravel paths.

I think I'd go for puncture prevention rather than race performance for this, any suggestions please?

Also, has anyone fitted say 28mm tyres on this model please?

Many thanks 👍 👍

I found this post from a few years back...

It's got just enough room for [C]rud Road Racer MkII mudguards with 25mm rubber,
Which suggests that 28mm tyres would just squeeze on without mudguards, but... wouldn't you want mudguards on a winter bike?

That's great info, thank you!
And yes, I think I'm going to try out full mudguards for the first time ever! Maybe I should look at and get the mudguards first, and go from there... Awesome, cheers!

28mm should fit but not much more.

I've used gstorskins, wiggle commuters both have been good. Now got swauble cx pros on my winter bike👍

Bargain yes, suitable for winter bike / light gravel ? probably not if 25mm with mudguards is your limit.

I think it'd be fine as a winter bike, even if it has 25/28mm tyres

I have tried it in my distant past, i.e bike with 25mm tyres and clip on guards, but the clearances were very tight and there was a propensity to getting bits of road debris between guard and tyre. That said the clip on guards have improved so less rattle nowadays

I sold it to a mate and bought something more suitable.
