Wider tyres

Hi,

I've managed to pick up a nasty snakebite puncture on the front which has slit the tyre, and also at the same time I've noticed a bulge in the sidewall on my rear.

As these are the standard kenda tyres that came with the bike and I seem to have ended up enjoying cycle tracks rather than pure road riding(ironically the damage seems to have been caused on road based potholes) in thinking of going from the standard 700 x 23 to a 700 x 28 tyres with perhaps a slightly heavier tread on my Carrera TdF.

My question for you guys is, will the wider tyres (when I get them and any advice is appreciated on which ones) require new wider tubes as well?

Also, I'd appreciate it if anyone can comment on their experiences with shifting from skinny to fatter rubber

Thanks in advance

Before you invest in 28mm tyres check the clearance under your fork crown and rear brake bridge to be certain that there will be no interference.
Generally inner tubes are available 18-25 mm and anything bigger will need a different tube but check the wording on the cardboard box.
The accepted wisdom nowadays is that 25mm tyres roll better than thinner ones, whether this is also true of 28mm I don't know but probably is.
Just one point regarding snake-bite punctures, these are invariably caused through under inflation so check pressure and pump up before every ride if necessary.
