A silly question for everyone that paints the seat post and handlebar stem, why ?
The amount of bikes that I have seen that need a new complete head set and in some cases new forks because some .... decided to paint the bar stem. The paint goes down between the stem and fittings and locks the whole thing in place, then they can’t tighten the bearings when needed and just carry on using the bike until the rocking is so bad that they end up in trouble.
I have twice this week alone had to use an Angle Grinder to cut off the Nuts on stem and bearings housing otherwise a complete new for would be needed. Using an Angle Grinder is extremely dangerous as 1mm to much and the threads on the stem as
f..ked, please “ DO NOT USE an Angle Grinder” unless you know exactly what you are doing and know how to use it properly.
The same with seat posts, why do people paint the seat post, the paint runs down between the post and the frame and sticks, bonds of glues the two pieces together and in most cases they will not be free’d up resulting in a new bike needed.
So please people,“ DO NOT PAINT “ the stems on your handlebars or seat post.
It’s for your own sake and your pockets 😀
