this is why i would never give anything to the RSPCA.
In all the pet forums this organisation is well know for putting down pets. It seems is their policy not to rehome or rescue pets brought into their centres.

So often you hear of peoples pets being put down by the RSPCA before any attempt is made to find the owners.
In this case it is not known yet whether it was the decision of the Vet or the RSPCA to put the cat to sleep within one hour of it being picked up in the adjacent neighbours garden.
I despise the organisation I have yet to hear a good word said about them

Near me is "The Arc" - RSPCA ... looodes of animals are taken in and cared for here. And it isn't a bad quality of care either.

Recently my mum and brother got a Guinea pig from there, who had been there a fair few months. He was taken in, had "the snip" ....get a secondary infection from the operation and was cared for. My mum and brother picked him up and he now lives a brilliant life with two female guinea pigs in a large run with plenty of grass and cuddles.

The most intriguing part of the story is why he waited for the cameras to arrive before washing up Tiddle's bowl for the last time:wacko:

not if you speak to the thousands of cat rescue centres and cat rehoming centres and cat forums you won't hear a good word said about them In fact Mrs Peanut is an ex vet nurse and practise manager of several veterinary prcatices and they all feel the same way too.

Glad to hear that there has been one good experience anyway . Clearly not all centres follow the same proceedures and policies and there are good people as well as bad in every organisation.

The Ark in Southampton is one exception but how many other cities in the Uk do the have RSPCA have animal shelter facilities

The major problem with the RSPCA is probably the fact that it's too large given its relative funding. Unfortunately they have to put animals down because they don't have the capacity to look after them all - harsh, but true. When our cat last had kittens (it's a long story, but we didn't have her at the time), the RSPCA simply stated that they didn't have the space to take in the three kittens that needed to be rehomed - they were lovely kittens, healthy and pretty, but they simply didn't have the resources, even though the kittens probably would have been rehomed in a couple of weeks or so.
As for the story in question, it all seems a little strange.

Oh yes, and I have a good thing to say about them - they paid twenty pounds for the scan that Martha needed at the vet earlier this week. They do that for those who can't afford to take the cat to the vet (the scan cost £45, which at this moment in time, is like our food budget for two weeks).

Have to agree that the RSPCA is very selective about that animal cruelty it seeks to prevent. They don't get any of my money.

They've also sold out big time with putting their name to factory farming with "Freedom Food" which is a total and utter con.

Neither do the RSPCA oppose animal experimentation outright which seems curious for an organisation that is supposedly there to prevent cruelty.

After the time with the squirrel where they were prepared to let it suffer on the side of a building all day in the sun and wind, I wouldn't give them any money. We took the matter into our own hands at the end of the day since they obviously weren't going to.
