Why hasn't this guy been jailed or even his licence suspended?

He used his car as a weapon, end of. ADHD should be no excuse for his horrific behaviour.

Beggars belief.

If he'd stayed at home and said something unpleasant on Twatbooktok about them he'd have got two years.

I was interested to read this happened in Congleton.

Back in 2019 I cycled from Somerset to Manchester and only felt unsafe and threatened by traffic in one place on the trip - Congleton.

Is this coincidence or is there a strong anti cyclist thing going on there?

He went back to the snooker club and collected two other men whilst the child was still in his car. He then tracked the boys down to nearby Belgrave Avenue and deliberately drove at the young men.

leaving the scene and returning to run them down is a deliberate attempt to cause serious harm.
The judge should be reprimanded for handing down such light sentencing.

I do hope someone looks at this verdict. It's ridiculously light. Using his car as a weapon. Getting extra men with him to go after these kids. Going hunting for them.

ADHD has nothing to do with this.

"he tracked the boys down... And drove at the young men".
What is it , boys or men?

And that "4x4" is not a 4x4, its a Toyota CHR. A Fiat Panda is more 4x4 than that Toyota!

Anyway, sod the details and back to the story. I wonder if him being an employer of 15 people has anything to do with having a lighter sentence. Not making excuses one way or the other, but just wondering. The judge did say if the men or boys (do they just let anyone be a journalist these days?) had serious injuries then the guy would be letting down his 15 employees.

Ps: in other incidents, I wonder if "SMIDSY and I'm an employee" is different to "SMIDSY and I'm an employer" has different ramifications.

Play stupid games. Win stupid prizes.

That seems to go for everyone involved in this incident.

But yes. He should have been jailed.

Yeah, as driven as I am towards taking one side or the other it seems that no party involved here has showered themselves with glory and a lot of details are hazy.

Not to defend his actions but I suspect this wouldn't have happened were he not provoked and the kids involved were probably not blameless in precipitating this situation.

It actually does. What is your take on it as an ex copper.

Probably much as yours. Where the actions are clearly deliberate he should never be allowed the opportunity to be in charge of that type of weapon again.

Perhaps not so much in this case, as the jumped out and gave the lads a good poke as a separate act which allowed the CPS two bites of that particular cherry, hence separate assault charges, but where a vehicle has clearly been deliberately used as a weapon there should be a specific vehicular assault charge with a mandatory lifetime ban. This would be much as I'd receive a lifetime ban if I assaulted, or even merely threatened to assault, someone with my shotgun.

"He had a recent diagnosis of ADHD which explains his impulsive behaviour, his irritability and his inability to control his emotions at times, which is really what happened on the occasion..." which suggests to me the law should be changed so that people with such a medically induced lack of self control are perhaps not permitted to be in charge of such kinetic weapons at all. That's a poor mitigation.
