Try / borrow a new pump to see if the gauge is faulty?

The valve may be stuck, you may be just compressing the air in the pump to get the 120psi

Unscrew the valve locking collar and depress the valve attach the pump, then inflate

is the valve locking collar the screw thingy next to the rim?

if i dont unscrew this, how come this will keep my valve from sticking?

i will give it a go in the morning
thank you

The valve has a little knurled ring on threaded brass plunger, you need to unscrew this before inflation.

I have a Lidl/Aldi (can't remember which) pump with a head that did both Presta and Schrader. It was somehow blocked and refused to allow any air through but was showing high pressure. When I took the pump off air shot out. I ended up cutting the head off and fitted an adapter like this.

I can then use a standard Schrader pump adapter when I want to pump up MTB tyres. I can also get the 100+psi for the road tyres.

I know I should have taken the pump back but I knew I could make it work easily enough and when the problem occured the bike week was over and the pump out of stock.

Slime innertubes ?
I can't remember if they're what i had on a bike years ago, but where there'd been a puncture, the slime did its bit and sealed the innertube...to the degree where i had 'hard spots' in the tube where it was very difficult to get air in equally
might not have been slime tubes...but sounds similar.

I bought a footpump at Lidl as well and I had the same problem. I chucked it away and bought a Joe Blow Turbo.
