Who's been buying Lidl batteries then?

Tipped off by other CC posters went round to Lidl this morning at about 10:30, fully expecting there not to be any of the 'hybrid' rechargeables they'd promised. To my amazement there was a bin with all of them there (in a total muddle).

Bought them for nearly everything that runs on batteries at home that wasn't already on rechargeables. I was going to anyway but this offer better than halves the cost.

So far I've charged up a set of 6 C cells for my DAB radio (they're 4AH which should last longer than the 2.1AH AAs in an adapter) and will replace existing alkalines as they die in other things.

The price is amazing assuming they work as well as the others I already have. First indications are good.

I bought 2 packs of AAA and 1 of AA but might pop back for some more as they seem fantastic value and work a treat in my lights. Got to hide them from GF's son as he pinches all batteries for his X-Box. We even find remotes don't work as he's taken them from there as well in the past.

Perhaps you should buy him some, plus a charger!

I want a pack of AA and AAA but not bothered about rushing over just to get some (costs money after all).

And neither do I think many people realise what "Ready-to-Use" means.

It means make sure you charge them before using them or you may end up reverse charging some of them.

I know what these batteries are, though I get you aren't trying to explain to me that.

Although, I am not fully sure if what you are saying is meant as sarcasm.

A bit tongue in cheek, but correct.

This type of battery holds its charge for long enough that there's plenty left when they come out of the packet. The problem is that if they're used like this and some in the thing they're running go flat before others the ones with charge left will reverse charge the flat ones - bad news for their future. More likely as the number of batteries in one device goes up.

One of the makes of them actually says on the packet that they should be charged before use as well as saying that they are useable from the packet!

This price from Lidl makes the batteries very affordable - I just hope they're good quality. The short recharge times I got today with my charger suggest they're good, or were only made and charged up a few weeks ago (or both).

I have to say I would never use these out of the packet without charging them either. And I find the "ready to charge" title (as is on a few others) a bit silly. A selling point for batteries that are pre-charged, sounds like a stupid point to me.

I guess it's not easy for them to advertise what they are to people who don't know what LSD batteries are.

Do you have capacity to test the capacity?

Just to add, im not getting them for bike usage - which in a lot of circumstances is pointless imo.

So my online battery expert friends, what's the best way to care for new batteries, as my current perfomance is woeful. Now I've got a decent charger should I charge and de-charge them a couple of times first?
