Had somewhat of an episode yestderday with my Tiagra (road) shifter.
Took my Boardman Comp down to my local LBS to have the gears tweeked only to be told that the left shifter (controlls front rings) is knackerer, i.e ratchet has gone and won't keep chain on biggest ring.
Took the bike home, had a poke about in the mechanism and I think I've proper knackered it.
I've managed to source another shifter, but my question is; where the brake cable attaches inside the shifter (its sort of secured by a metal lip), the cable stop (barrell type nut) had two very small plastic covers on each end of the barrel stop which I've broken. Is it possible to replace these rather than get a whole new cable?
Has anyone else had problems with these shifters, do they break easily and is it possible to knacker them easily during installation?
Arrrggghhhhh!!!! All I want to do is ride the thing and if it isn't the weather its the components up the creak!
