hi all
well today i managed my 30 mile round trip to and from work i have been gradually building up my mileage over the past few weeks to get used to the distance but its one thing doing 15-20 miles on a weekend jaunt but to do 15 miles to work knowing at the end of a hard day i will have to bike home again has been a mental stumbling block for me
but it all went well except i will have to get some paniers for the bike because the back pack was not a good idea it left my back soaking wet with sweat its a good job i allowed time to have a shower at work
also i noticed it seems my outside toes feellike they are going numb which cant be good

awesome, you'll work out the best shoe/pedal combo for yourself and I'd agree with going for pannier/s, that's a very solid commute.

Congrats, Vimes.

About 13 months ago, I spent some time building up to a 20-mile each way commute. I did it once, and then got made redundant - I don't think that the two were linked but you might want to have something prepared if your boss calls you in on Monday.

My commute is now just under 10 miles, which is a very pleasant way to start and end the day.

Hey Vimes. Well done mate.
I also do 30 mile round trip (actually it's 34 miles) and it's never a grind. Even when it's howling a gale out there. We are now coming into the best of the weather for a good few months so by the time the nights close in and the weather get's a bit colder you will be used to your commute and no doubt will be enjoying all the benefits that a fair old commute gives you. Just you watch your fitness and stamina rise to a different level. All beneficial for when you are weekend cycling.

Get a rack and pannier... far better then a rucksack imo.

Enjoy your commute it will only get better.

Hi Lee,

Well done!

I can only agree with the previous posts - get a rack and panniers. I used to ride with a small rucksack, and yes, always soaking wet on arrival (yuk).

I got some panniers after Christmas and what a difference - I felt freer riding, only thing is now, I have a tendency to stuff panniers with ridiculous amounts of stuff on the way home - laptop, loaf of bread, a plate rack I bought in my lunch hour...I tell myself that the extra weight is better training for me on the hills.
