Who is the best/cheapest for bits ?

Shimano shoes, SPDs, SKS 700c sized mudguards etc etc

Usually best to find a good local shop. You may pay a pound or two more but will reap that back when you need good service.

The shop I bought the new bike from is filled with idiots.

The guy tried to flog me some race blades for the hybrid (it has got holes for mudguards and enough clearance to take them).

+1 for SKS chromoplastics - I can't remember these varying much in price, but it might be worth checking the usual suspects in any case. As I recall there's a chart on SKS' site detailing which profile fits which width tyre.

www.bikepimp.co.uk (bike specific price search engine) could be a place to try too. For SPDs and shoes, I went for Merlin cycles - top people, good service, and keen prices on shoe and pedal bundles as I remember (caveat - I did buy in December last year).
