Is this stuff any good for cleaning my chain? Only wondering cos we have some in the house and if it does the job theres no point buying the branded stuff.

Works as a solvent for getting all the muck and grease off, but bear in mind that this does mean you lose all the lubrication from the inside of the chain bushes.

It's not very eco-friendly (difficult to dispose of without it getting into the groundwater and high volatile organic compounds which go into the atmosphere) so you should probably not use it long term ideally.

White spirit works fine. I wash in that, rinse off with water and a little detergent then stick the chain in the oven for a couple of minutes to dry.

dishwashing detergent works a treat - you have to use a lot of it, but if you get the eco-stuff you can do so with a clear conscience. An old toothbrush gets into the links.

Just make sure you take it out the dishwasher before the missus finds it.
