Hi, can anyone suggest a not too expensive pair of winter tights, ideally padded but I guess I could wear them under my shorts so not absolutely essential..Was looking at the Altura night vision tights. Has anybody got any experience of these if so any good. Any other suggestions appreciated thanks guys.

You'll possibly need two types.... usual lycra/fleased type for most conditions, then one that has some 'air proofing' - i.e. a sub 5c tight - usually has the air proof section over the knee and quads (Decathlon do a cracking one)

Altura are great for the construction of the garment, but the reflective bits fall off very quickly on stuff that get's washed often - e.g. shorts and tights - I pull the reflectives off as they last a few washes on the usual stuff. The waterproof jackets fair much better as you don't wash very often.....

I have been using these for the last couple of winters, very cosey

They also do a lighter summer version, ideal for when its not quite warm enough for shorts

Have you ever had Bikesters Dave? Just wondering if the sizing is similar with the Alturas.
Quite fancy a pair of the winter ones but I'm on the borderline of their sizing guide between L and XL. In the Bikesters large are perfect for me.

Don't mess about with imitations. Get Tudor Longs.

I bought mine in 1989. Addmitedly, they don't get used very often. Only when the temperature falls below zero.

I've still got a pair of bikesters upstairs, I started using the cruisers when I had trouble getting the bikesters, I'd go for the large potsy they're about the same size.
