i am riding a 2015 Defy 0 with ultegra front and rear and cassette, and shimano RS500 chain set , I am wanting to upgrade but not sure what direction to go, I don't want to spend more than £1600 , I was looking at the new defy, or a tcr or a propel advance 1 , I am concerned about the weight of some of these bikes but can't find info on website.

Any of those could be an 'all-rounder' - depending on what your definition of 'all rounder' is....

Why do you want to change? They are all different bikes for different uses I think. I'm not sure a propel is best for touring, while a defy might not be best for racing and TTs

If you are looking to change a 2015 bike did you buy the wrong bike? If so why is the defy on the list?

Provided its not an absolute anvil then its ridiculous to worry about a bikes weight until you've shed every superfluous ounce yourself.

The bikes you cite are all well regarded machines. Go ride them, buy the one you like best. After all, you wouldn't spend 1.6 large on a car without driving it first, or a TV without watch on it.

If you are worried about a a kilo here or there, do what I did and go on a diet. I lost the weight of the bike. I now ride an invisible bike. Stealth mode.

I can see no reason for a 2016 Defy - They spec exactly the same according to Giants website and it already is an all-rounder. However, spend some of that on better wheels, Ultegra brakes, a carbon seatpost, a bikefit session, etc and you can really transform things, particularly the last one on that list - going purely by personal experience.

On the other hand, the Defy 0 is a perfectly competent second bike too, so why not buy something that is less of an all-rounder and look at other brands? There is some serious value out there.

The propel is a lovely bike but a bit stiff IMO so maybe not a all rounder.

Although someone else might say differently....

The 2015 defy0 comes with a D shaped seat post, this is the D-fuse system which does help with some road buzz, so you can't change that, but giant recon a all carbon bike is much better to ride ,much more stiffer and responsive , and less buzz. ??????

outlash

also available in orange
If you think road buzz is an issue, take 5 PSI out of your tyres. I think you should try these bikes out and see what you think rather than read Giant's sales pitch.

Ah you mean the defy advanced, and not the defy

Go ride them  don't forget in groups and sportive so TT bars aren't allowed

Okay; so given replies to your OP, try and be specific about exactly which models you're looking at. It will result in a more focused response to your question and get to helping you faster.

@Drago - I know it's not wholly related; but having been involved in the development of a new line of loudspeakers over the last two years and seen Klippel analysis of various composite speaker cone materials, it's entirely possible to engineer differing levels of inherent internal damping within a given 'stiffness' of material. The question is, at what frequency do you focus that damping....

Like I say, may be irrelevant (and certainly bordering on off-topic) as we were dealing in kHz, not mere Hz that bike frames have to deal with, but it was very interesting none the less!
