Comrades,

My Father currently uses an old iMac and dial-up (virgin.net). He wants/needs to get a new computer and also wishes to move into the broadband age !

Now, he likes and is comfortable with, the iMac, and therefore would like to get another one. My question is, therefore, which broadband supplier would be best ? He doesn't want to get cable (no digging up the rose bushes) so virgin broadband is out.

Are any of them good/bad for iMacs ? Is BT the best ? Do iMacs work with wifi ?

Many thanks for your help

I use o2 Boradband with all my PC's and with my Macbook no problem.

Yes you can get an imac with wifi. o2 use standard Thompson WIFI routers so you just need to look for the network put in the WEP/WPA code and away you go no extra software/drivers needed.

just make sure that the imac has an airport extreme card installed when purchased.

i have an old netgear router that works fine, although i'm on virgin media which you've ruled out as an option.

the mac os makes finding the router a piece of the proverbial, and will remember the wep/wpa code so you don't have to key it in each time if you don't want.

I use Virgin media broadband, over a BT phoneline. (MacBook, not iMac)

iMacs work with routers etc in just the same way as PCs so it makes no difference. Just pick the one that looks the best. We looked for customer satisfaction surveys etc and decided on Pipex. They were pretty good and we've had no problems. Been taken over by Tiscaly though, who were not so good, so who knows now!
