Hi,
I ride a GT Avalanche 2 and it came with Maxxis Sphinx tyres. The blurb says they have a 'low profile wide tread'. I have replaced them recently with a puncture proof Maxxis High Roller but I'm finding it very difficult to get up to and maintain speed. I think the tread is too deep and is sucking up the road. It's taking so much more effort. Can someone recommend a reasonably priced puncture proof tyre for cycling tow paths, Tarmac routes and wildlife trails. Thanks x

I had a similar problem with the 2.1" knobblies..........I changed to 1.6 Marathons..............it made a massive difference-so much easier & faster on the roads.
They are fine for canal paths and gravelly/pothole paths. I wouldn't like to use them on muddy real off road cycling though.

Have you considered having your tyres slimed to make them less prone to punctures.......Just a thought .

I'm on cycle and canal paths a lot as well rainforest tracks. I've had schwalbe rapid robs since i got my bike a year ago and I've only had one puncture and rolling resistance is pretty good

putting big mud plugger tyres on these mtb's in a marketing ploy...kids see them.and say " WOW! i want this one". but they're completely impractical for anything other than barrelling down a hill in thick mud..
