Hi All,

I need to replace my trusty old Aldi track pump, which has done me proud for the last three or four years. The inflator head no longer stays put on the valve sufficiently tight when I am inflating the road bike tyres up to pressure, resulting in a shortfall of around 15 psi.

I appreciate that it is possible to spend ridiculous money on a track pump, but can any of you guys recommend a decent one in the region of £25.00 please?

Any tips or advice most welcome, thanks.

Bike Hut Pro from Halfords has done me well over the last few years. About £20- I think.

I have a Beto alloy track pump that looks just like this one. Wooden handle makes it comfortable to use. Had it 10 years and no problems so far.

Mine is rated to 160psi. Might be worth a message to the vendor to check this.

My lidl/Aldi one blew up this weekend after 7 years of sterling performance... so good timing of this thread

The topeak joe blow seems to get a bit of a slating elsewhere on the internet, something to do with the head not lasting?

I bought one of these last year from Wiggle at the ExCel centre before RideLondon last year (forgot to stick my other one in the car!) and it's had more use than the other one i have.

I've got that one too. It took me over a year to remember which way to turn the valve on the head (it's got a twist head rather than a lever). That said, it's been very, very useful and shows no sign of wearing out in any way.

My aldi one blew a month ago. I was never happy with it. I now use halfords bike hut track pump and its brilliant. Solid, sturdy and was in sale for about £20 I think. You pay for what you get.

I've a Joe Blow, had it a few years now and never had a problem with it. Best piece of kit I've ever bought.

Thanks for all the advice folks. Appreciate your time in replying.

Decided on the Halfords Bikehut Performance Track Pump in the end. It was a good price at £19.99 (down from £39.99 allegedly), was available straight away via click and collect, and seems very well made. The fact that it will inflate to 160 psi was also a factor, not because I need that kind of capacity, but merely because I figured it would easily cope with the 115-120psi I usually run. Some pumps top out at 120psi, so I didn't want to be regularly taking it to the limit.

I guess the bright colours and big name of something like a Topeak Blow Joe might tip the balance for some, but in all honesty there really doesn't appear to be much difference in construction quality. In fact the major difference is that the Topeak costs an extra £10.00.

Thanks again for all your input.

How would you know about the difference in quality unless you owned both ?

Many bikeshops use the Blow Joe....for good reason.....Im told mine will outlive me, still you saved yourself a tenner...

Errrr........... Because a mate of mine owns a Joe Blow, and from what I've seen, there doesn't appear to be much difference in quality of construction. The presumption that you actually have to own something to be able to make a judgment on its quality is ridiculous.
