hi i have been given a trek 1000 sl the back wheel has broken spokes i want to fit a new wheel it has a 12 26 sram cassette what tool do i need to remove the lock ring and where can i get one i.e. halfords ???

If you're removing the cassette you will need a chainwhip too, but if you're putting a new cassette on your new wheel just the tool that John linked to.

and take the cassette OFF before you cut all the spokes if you are saving the hub and rim

insert the tool into the lock ring, add the wheel nuts to hold the tool loosely - so it doesn't twist off

and get a bloody big wrench ............spanner in the UK

also Utube thing is your friend

there are only two spokes broken would it be cheaper to get wheel repaired and retrued

1..is it buckled badly..........????

i replaced 9 damaged spokes on a wheel from eBay where the Seller omitted to say the chain had jumped

2 is a piece of p**s
if they are on the drive side you will have to remove the cassette to thread the new spokes in
measure on old one from its end to the inside elbow oj the ''J''
then order off eBay

true the rim to be within 1mm from a brake block
its easy AND you will learn how to true your wheels
