Which slicks for MTB?

I have schwalbe marathons 1.75 on mine - have done a 100miler on them and several 70 mile rides... They work fine and are fairly puncture proof - plus inner tubes are easier to find for anything from 1.75 upwards....

I'm with satansbudgie. Though I have had one vist, but then that was a big old bit of broken pottery, triangle shaped, about 9mm on a side and it kind of chewed its way through over the course of a few miles I think.

Marathons are great for touring, commuting and utility work. I cycled over the Woodhead pass at the weekend on some 700x35mm Marathon's I picked up cheaply, however if money were no object I would have probably gone for some 28mm Gatorskins.

These are available in MTB sizes.

I have city jets as well on my MTB. Over 1200 miles, mostly on poorly surfaced roads and even along where hawthorn hedges were trimmed and no punctures....

Of your original choices - neither!

Conti Sport contacts are a good call, and you should be able to get the pair cheaper than the price for a pair of Halfords tyres.

I've got City Jets on my tandem, they're fine but not as good as the Contis. I've found WTB Slickasaurus were OK as well.
