Hi,

Looking at getting a new road bike. Would be used for sunny commutes of 17 miles each way and for longer weekend rides.

Currently have a hybrid that takes rack and midguards, but usually use a rucksack anyway, so they arent an issue. Wouldnt mind space for some kind of mudguards though.

Budget of around 600ish, it is moveable. Would like aluminium frame and sora or above.

Ive been looking at the spesh allez sport with sora and the planet x rt58 tiagra. Allez could be bought from lbs, however the rt58 would be a guessing game as i couldnt try one, just seems more bike for the money.

If anyone has comments about either bike, or suggestions of new ones entirely, Id be grateful.

Many thanks

Boardman Road Comp should meet your spec and is under your budget - I've got last year's model and it's great, and the current one now has disc brakes.

Or this Full carbon Sora spec Ribble for £499.
Only size 56cm left, not sure what size you require?http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/ribble-evo-pro-sora-3000-se/

Thabks for all the replies, considered all of them. I did look at that ribble previously, just didnt like the look of it enough, does seem quite a bargain though. Same issue with the boardman, just dont like the styling. I also didnt mention i was looking for the new sora, mainly so the cables are under the bar tape.

I am pretty set on something alu though, I like to do my own maintenance and carbon bits just scare me too much.

Hard to go wrong with a Defy. Common as muck, but with very good reason indeed.

There are some good bargains out there for sure new and used at the moment

A friend of mine is selling a very lightly used Viner Maxima RS 4.0 with Full Shimano Ultegra 5800 Di2 groupset, Shimano RS81 Carbon clincher wheelset (C24)-Shod with Hutchinson Atom tyres(23mm) Selle San Marco saddle and SLK Carbon seatpost .

claims he paid £2.5k less than 100 dry miles ago and is considering offers around £1500 !!!

i know this is totally above op's price and material choice but just shows whats out there

£300 off a new defy with warranty etc is a good deal too and in the OPs budget

Aren't Viner a PX 'brand', sounds like much of the price is down to expensive components the OP isn't seeking

I have the Btwin Triban 520, full sora, carbon fork, I bought it for £450 2 years ago, it's down to £350, an absolute steal, brilliant bike for club runs and commuting.

The Triban 540 can be had with Mavik Aksiums and 105 for only £650. Loads of reviews of these bikes and they have had a few awards. Really recommended.

From Decathlon so you can try before you buy.

Unfortunatly, there are no decathlons near enough to me to be worth my while, heard many good thing about the btwins though.
