Hi - as I'm replacing my Shimano 9-speed cassette and chain after 5 years of (ab)use I thought I should also probably replace the jockey wheels on the rear derailleur, as these a starting to feel a bit "gritty", even after cleaning and re-lubing.

Should I just got for the standard Shimano replacements (about £14 on e-Bay) or is it worth going for something else (e.g. these nice ones from Hope or even these nice, but rather pricey ceramic ones from FSA)? Thanks

I have the Hopes in a road application. Only really worthwhile for the added bling factor. I think you can get them cheaper than that from Merlin.

I have ceramic bearing jockey wheels on all my bikes.
The white ones are delierium and feature ultimate ceramic bearings and the black ones are KCNC with ceramic bearings. (Next to a dura ace jockey wheel)

Unless your a Weight Weenie or enjoy cleaning shiney bits save your money. The gaps in the lightweight ones collect muck and road grime, while the ceramic bearings do not make much difference.

Am not bothered about saving weight (it's for a touring bike), but my long XT derailleur cage picks up lots of muck, so want something with well-sealed bearings that are durable. Mind you, the whole XT derailleur is only £50 on Wiggle... How easy is it to replace the jockey wheels BTW?

Very easy.
Take chain off.
Then with Allen key undo the 2 bolts (1 for each Jockey wheel, either side of the hanger)
Replace jockey wheels.
Put chain back on.
