I'm looking for a set of pedals for my first road bike, when i finally decide on which bike to choose. I just want pedals with straps to start with as, that is what i'm used to. so if anybody could recommend any, i would be gratefull!
Thanks in advance

Not to sure?
Personally I would suggest looking at getting a pair of those double sided touring type SPD pedals. SPD cleats on one side and a normal platform on the other side.

Like these

But you can get them cheaper if you shop about.

I'm old fashioned too and still use toe-clips. They are advantageous in stop/start conditions when I'm away whilst everybody else in still clicking-on. I also don't sound like a tap-dancer when collecting my cake.

If you are going to race then the extra traction you get with cleats is essential. Personally I would get clips to start with until you are comfortable with the bike. Then try cleats. You can get the 520s for around £20. Don't forget you will probably have to buy new shoes to fit (there are still some Lidls @ £9.99). Those should enable you to decide whether a greater investment would be appreciated or whether you want to stick with clips.

Im even more old fashioned...........I use V12 flats.
Plenty of opportunity to move feet position............
Easy to get on and off the bike.......no nasty moments......................I love 'em
Go Flats for freedom !

What they said.
Definately go for clipless rather than toe clips.

Shimano SPD's, double or single sided with a flat on one side are probably the best starting point.

I have a set of these

Cheap, easy to clip in and out of, and work soooo much better than toeclips.

Not had a proper 'moment' yet - if you panic you can just about pull your foot out without twisting.

Clipless are so much better, you can set the release tension quite low which makes getting your foot out really easy, and they are definately quicker than toe clips to put your foot in when you start. If you go for Shimano SPDs and a mtb shoe, you can walk without sounding like a tap dancer as the cleat does not touch the ground. I can't remember the last clipless moment I've had, but it was a long time ago, last time I went over the bars on a steep descent, I managed a tactical dismount and landed on my feet, it becomes automatic to unclip.
