hi guys, im after some advice on some new pedals.
i have a boardman comp road bike and the pedals are awfull, i have just been bought some riding shoes for fathers day by my lovely little stinkers (kids), and they are:- http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/shimano-r075-shoes-item128044.html?&src=shopwiki.

ive been looking at different pedals and i cant decide what is best for me as a relitive begginer. Im on a tight budget as ive already spent a fortune over the last few weeks on the bike, clothing etc.

ive noticed two low priced pedal sets, the first are:- http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/shimano-r540-spd-sl-road-pedals-id39990.html
& the second are:- http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/look-keo-easy-item125285.html
or how about these:- http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/time-xen-pedal-id41403.html
im not sure what would be best, both are available with cleats from ebay for around £35-£40 what can you advise on either of these type pedals?

any advice will be greatly appreciated

thanks

nick

Both very similar really. I use the older Look (I assume these are Look Keo).

Very little difference. Which models are you looking at.

Don't know too much about proper "Road" shoes but I always thought for SPD-SL shoes, you would need SPD-SL pedals - not Look style? Might have this wrong though...

For the record I am thinking about getting proper road pedals - currently have SPD's on my road bike - hence the interest on the thread

Look and Shimano cleats both bolt to the shoe wih the same 3 bolt pattern so it doesn't matter. FWIW I rode Look's for years but never found them to be particularly reliable or well made. I switched to Shimano and found them much better.

FWIW nick, i havnt used the Shimano or Time pedals but have used the older Looks (with Delta cleats)...and the newer Keo system.

I actually prefered the older delta Looks (mine were PP396)...personally i find the Keos more difficult to engage with the second foot...dont know why, it's probably me, but i never had that problem with the older Looks. That said, i prefer the 'look' of the Keo's if you get my drift

You can be sure the Shimano or Time pedals will be fine...they've all been around a long time.

I started off with the old Look system - they are OK but I found that the shoe/pedal combo didn't quite give the right feel. Turned to Shimano spd-sl and they are better in that I get a more positive connection with the pedal through the cleat.

There's not THAT much in it but I'll stick to Shimano.

And I went the other way. Started on SPD and still use them for commuting, then SPD SL but did not really like them and am now on Look Keo.

thanks for all the replies guys, it would seem after reading all the replies that its more of a personal thing than anything else, seems like its a split decision and maybe more trial and error.

I've had those shimano shoes and pedals since January - my first clipless set up and have not been disappointed. I paid top whack compared to those prices quoted in the links!... get em bought!;)
