Hi

Started ridding last October and have done 600 miles since on a specialized vienna globe 1.

Well now’s the time to have some fun and get a road bike, I have looked at the Giant fury 2 can get for £616 – the orbea aqua ttg '10 around £850 – Cube Attempt £1000 – Boardman Road Race Bike £649 and the Boardman Road Comp Bike£799.

Which one would you go for, it will be used for fair weather riding and the odd 100 mile run?

would be gratefull for some advice.

Which group set you lookin at due to the fact you say £850 for the Orbea. I believe you are lookin at sora or tiagra group sets. But alot of it is about the bike and to be able to get a real feel you need to have a cycle on them. Also the way that you change gear is different on shimano, campag and Sram this is sumtin i looked at and this made my mind up on which bike i chose.
Also slightly depends on ur budget. when lookin recently you can get an carbon forks and rear stay and aluminium center triangle for 700-1100 depending on the group set. Then for full carbon u start lookin at 1500+.

up to £1000 is the buget but i am not sure what difference the group sets will make but the bikes i have listed have Sora, Tiagra and 105s on them with the cube having the 105 which i assume is the best on these bikes.

The difference in the group sets are the weights, quality of build and materials used. You have three main manufactura's of group sets i believe Shimano (the biggest), Campag (The beautiful Italian) and SRAM (The New Kid).
These then each have their models as such Sora, Tiagra, 105, Utlegra and Dura Ace are the Shimano ones. They progress in quality in the way i have ordered them. THe sora and tiagra are 9 speed, 105 and above are 10 speed. You are most likely to get Shimano, but i believe as SRAM is the new kid they are better value for money.
The price range ur lookin at you should got at a LBS and have a talk with some one, some bike shops will even do a free fitting on the bike that you want, i know Epic Cycles (they are linked in the above comment and they do orbea) will do this as my misses bought a bike off them and they were happy to customis the bike to her size (they changed the saddle, stem and sorted all the geometry out).
I have found though that the quality of a bike or kit is very much related to the price. Maybe worth lookin at some 2010 modle's if you want better specs.
