Not seen something posted about this recently, but I'm going to be cycling round Europe on my own next June for Charity. It is totaling just under 4000 miles going through several countries (see avatar for route). I was looking a the Garmin Edge 800 and the Garmin GTU 10. Obvious downside is that the cost is lots and was wondering if it can be justified or if anyone has used or can recommend a good alternative. I'll be on road the vast majority of the time.

Cheers
Chris.

Dakota (which not a lot of people seem to know about). One half of the 'replacements' for the eTrex that is so loved on here. And yes it is for cycling, which one member on here seemed to question because some bloke in a pub told him it wasn't.

The 705 does look a good price, and the benefits do seem quite small, other than the longer term updates for future rides etc.

Will be interesting to see what sort of discount I could get a the cycle show soon. That may make my mind up for me

For plotting and tracking I have an e-trex H and runs off 2x AA batteries. It hasn't the bells and whistles of more expensive items but does the job.
