Hi Everyone

I am thinking of upgrading my current Scott Sportster 60 hybrid to a road bike soon and rather like the look of the Giant Defy range, however I am unsure which one gives the best "bang for buck".

As an example, I can get the Giant Defy 1 2011 for £726.99 from http://www.ashcycles.com/site/giant-defy-1-2011 or the Defy 2 2012 for £795 from http://www.ashcycles.com/site/giant-defy-2-2012-15percent-worth-of-free-goods. Is there any significant difference between these two? Appreciate anyones thoughts.

Thanks

The Defy 2 has more gears and a bigger range of gears. I like the option of more gears although I'd fit a narrower range cassette as its got a compact chainset (like the Defy 1) but thats only my preference you may prefer to have the wider range of gears (its more down to personal fitness/ preference). The tyres on the Defy 2 are 23mm, whereas they're 25mm on the Defy 1, in theory the narrower tyres perform better (faster) but the 25mm will be more comfortable and besides thats an easy aftersale change if you prefer either. For the first reason (more gears) I'd go for the Defy 2, good luck.

The Defy 1 is higher up the range and the spec is better than the 2012 Defy 2, and the Defy 1 is cheaper (at your quoted prices), then I would say it's a no-brainer.

Btw you can get the 2011 Defy 1 for £550 at allterraincycles.
