Hi all,
Decided it is time to update things a bit. I do mostly live in the modern world although I do like to use use (paper) maps.
I'm the guy you might see with a 1:50 000 OS in his back pocket picking out those Kent lanes.
So I am looking to get a GPS computer that will be on my partners bike but most likely not one that displays a map. Just want the basics.... distance, speed, elevation etc and the ability to download a ride (already ridden) to whichever software... Strava?
I have seen the above on ebay, effectively unbranded quite cheap but I am reluctant as don't want to end up with something that works to begin with then not so much. So would welcome any recommendations.
Cheers
Tim

I'd pick one of the known brands, Garmin, Wahoo, Lezyne GPS based unit if that's what you want - no mapping as such but could follow a breadcrumb trail. Their basic models are ideal. I have an old 705 and a 200 - the 200 is literally switch on and press go. Boots up and locks on very quick. The 705 takes a little longer with mapping.

The newer units, like the Edge 25 is about £140. Lezyne do some from £80ish.

I just bought a Garmin edge 130, does everything I need, (even add a heart and cadence sensor if you like) and if you want you can down load routes to it, although I haven't tried that option.
For maps, I download the OS 1:25,00 to my phone, I prefer paper maps, but much easy to check your route on a phone you can hold in one hand than a paper map when you're riding along.

Ok thanks, I'll look into these. I should probably have added that when I cant be certain where I am on a map I get my phone out to ascertain my exact position ^_^
