Guys,

New here so a bit of background first:

Started riding this summer to loose weight (have gone from 18st to 14.5st so far). Aim to be around 13st post xmas (might depend on how much turkey gets consumed). I'm currently riding on a Boardman Race, as I wanted something decent without too much money down. Now that I've been hooked I want to trade up. I have a mate who's very interested in my current ride, so I'm looking at a budget of £2500-£3000 for a full carbon model, and sell the old bike to him.

I'm currently looking at either the Boardman AiR 9.2, or Trek Modone 5.9 Compact (2011). Given the fact that most bike shops do not allow for extensive road tests, I'm looking for recommendations on other brands/models in this price range. I would like the bike to be reasonably light, but doesn't have to be a Super light (15-17lbs typical would be nice). It has to be able to last, as this will be my purchase for MANY years to come. Purchase will be after the new yr (and yes I know the 2012 models will be out soon) so I'm just looking for ball park pointers on brands/models that are recommended (also those to avoid).

So come on, recommendations please?

Where do you live? If I was spending that on a bike, I would be expecting to be able to test ride it for as long as it took - I expect if you post your location, you'll get some good LBS recs

I would be wanting something very special for that money, I am not a fan of the big brands, prefer something a bit more unusual, hence I went for a Pearson

Their carbon pro is a very nice bike and they can build to personal preference

If I were going to spend that kind of money? I'd be looking at the Cube bikes! or the Moda Stretto, although the specialised top end bikes are a bit special.
